Deep Work in the Workplace

In order to improve the employment stability for people with disabilities in Taichung City,  Taichung City Government Labor Affairs Bureau authorized an institution to organize “People with Disability Deep Work Program” which provides free services for people with disabilities who have household registration in Taichung City or are employed in institutions in Taichung City. It is hoped that by assisting employed people with disabilities in avoiding employment instability due to changes in responsibilities and job market or other factors. An assistant at the workplace will provide immediate assistance and guidance to help stabilize employment of individuals, improve business employers’ trust in services provided by people with disabilities, and enhance business employers’ willingness to hire people with disabilities.

Target of Service:

  1. People with disabilities who are over 15 years old and under 65 years old and have household registration in Taichung City or are currently working in Taichung City.
  2. Those who are transferred by Taichung City Government Labor Affairs Bureau, relevant institutions for people with disabilities, career service agencies, or employers.


Service Method:

An assistant will visit people with disabilities in the workplace to have a one-on-one advisory meeting to provide constructive suggestions for improving workplace, employment aids, improve working conditions, and have individual counseling sessions. The assistant services as the communication bridge between the employers and people with disabilities.


Required Documents:

ID Card, Disability Card and Relevant Work Verification.


Mr. Yang who is born with hearing impairment is fortunate to find a job of assembling parts after graduating from School for the Hearing Impaired. Among his 30 colleagues, three of them are hearing impaired. When seeing others chatting and working, he also does so. However, his chatting with gestures affects his work performance. His employer has repeatedly advised him, but he felt that if others can do that, why he cannot. This has caused the tension between him and his employer. His employer cannot bear to fire him and learned that Taichung City Government Labor Affairs Bureau’s Deep Work Program. His employer immediately enrolled in the program. Through a professional assistant’s guidance and assistance, Mr. Yang finally opens his heart, improves his attitude, and keeps his job.
