Migrant worker-friendly! ASEAN Voice Talent and International Labor Festival officially kicks off
The friendly city and passionate Taichung! Taichung City Government Labor Affairs Bureau continues to organize a diverse array of migrant worker-friendly activities including the annual ASEAN Voice Talent Competition and International Labor Festival, which has become a popular event among migrant workers and new residents in central Taiwan. This year, the event was held in Taichung Park on September 27, which saw the participation of Deputy Mayor Bruce Linghu. He expressed the hope that the international cuisines and performances from different countries will be able to let the citizens and migrant workers appreciate the beauty of cultural diversity.
Since the Moon Festival was just around the corner, Deputy Mayor Linghu greeted the migrant workers and new residents warmly in English, Vietnamese, Thai and Indonesian and he also sang The Moon Represents My Heart with award-winning singers from last year's ASEAN Voice Talent to wish everyone a Happy Moon Festival in advance. He commented that Taichung is a people-friendly city blessed with cultural diversity, so that more events will be organized in the future to provide migrant workers, new residents and citizens with further opportunities to interact with one another.
According to Labor Affairs Bureau Director-General Wu Wei-Chih, migrant workers and new residents have often expressed their desire to attend migrant worker-diversity and friendly activities every year. This year, besides talent competitions, exotic cuisines and traditional Taiwanese eats stalls are also available to provide them with a feast for the ears, eyes and taste buds, as if they are traveling around the world.
Additionally, the Taichung Armed Forces General Hospital Zhongqing Branch has also been invited to provide free clinic service on the day of the event. Director-General Wu appealed to the migrant workers and citizens to pay attention to their health at all times and maintain good medical and health care awareness and to implement the necessary outbreak prevention measures and form a comprehensive community outbreak prevention network. Furthermore, the Hsiuping University of Science and the Technology and China Medical University were also invited to co-host the 7th "Young! Market," featuring outstanding young start-ups from Taichung offering handmade desserts, hand-painted cultural and creative trinkets, original agricultural products and friendly small farmer merchandise, etc.
